This large college cafeteria was to be designed as part of a new complex which dictated the footprint and ceiling lines of the new cafeteria. With the given stepped ceiling due to spaces above and the goal to maximize a tall, open space, the ACT (Acoustic Ceiling Tiles) were moved up closer to the exposed structure, running in continuous bands from the low to the high ceiling, allowing for full-height windows while visually tying together the low and high ceiling areas. Respectively, mechanical systems were dropped below the ACT, following the natural geometric lines of the space, creating a contemporary, industrial feel of the space, as it was suitable for this college cafeteria.
